  1. The Beatles
    The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) banned the broadcasting of The Beatles' recordings on August 8, 1966, in response to John Lennon's statement that the group was “more popular than Jesus.” His words sparked widespread controversy, and SABC subsequently banned the broadcasting of The Beatles' music. The ban was lifted on March 3, 1971.
