- British singer and songwriter Kirsty MacColl was born in Croydon, England. She became known for songs including “There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis,” “A New England” and “Days,” and recorded the hit “Fairytale of New York” with The Pogues. Her father was folk singer Ewan MacColl. She died in 2000 in a speedboat accident in Mexico.
