- The Woodstock festival ended with morning performances by The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Sha Na Na and Jimi Hendrix, who played his version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at 9 a.m. Of the more than 400,000 attendees, only an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 people remained in the mud for Hendrix's closing performance.
